The year was 1976. The 16-year-old Nick Andurlakis worked in a restaurant kitchen Colorado Mine Company (now closed) in Denver. One evening the phone rang - Ron Pietrafeso of the Denver Police Department asked Nick if he would stay longer, because they come to the restaurant a special guest ... Of course - said the teenager.



After midnight, the restaurant kitchen back door appeared a group of policemen, and behind them - Elvis Presley in his captain's uniform. He asked me to sit with them - says Andurlakis. I was very nervous ... He asked what I propose to eat. I've heard that he likes a sandwich with peanut butter and banana ... so I suggested "Fool's Gold Loaf", a huge peanut butter sandwich, blueberry jam and bacon inside ...

It sounds great - captivated Elvis - make me one.

Sandwich-monster unless adopted in the Elvis's of menu, because a few months later the phone rang again - Elvis stated that he has a great desire for a sandwich, as before. Although it is at Graceland in Memphis, but this is not a problem ...

After a few hours in Denver landed Elvis Presley's private jet with the King of Rock and Roll on board. Nick Andurlakis has already been waiting with sandwiches, Perrier water and champagne. Service took food, and Elvis invited me for an interview. We finished three hours later - says Nick. He did not even get off the plane for a minute.

After this time Elvis went back to Graceland (Memphis, Tennessee) is not touching the foot of Colorado. This trip and a great sandwich has become a Presley legend ... 

Nick Andurlakis currently lives in Golden (Colorado) and runs a small cafeteria (Nick's Cafe), filled to the ceiling with memorabilia associated with the King of Rock and Roll. Faithful fans of the singer order the specialty of the cafeteria - Fool's Gold Loaf, in a modified and slightly cheaper version.

For those who temporarily do not have a private plane close at hand, a recipe for an extraordinary sandwich in full and shortened version.


2 slices of white bread

2 tablespoons peanut butter

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

1 banana, sliced

          Using a knife, take both pieces of the (toasted - optional) bread and spread 2 tablespoons of creamy peanut butter, topping 1 side with the sliced banana. Place 1 slice of bread on top of the other forming a sandwich. Place sandwich in hot skillet browning each side, flipping with a spatula, about 2 minutes per side (use 1 tablespoon butter per one side). Take out of skillet, slice on a diagonal and serve on a plate.

Presley's Fried Peanut Butter, Banana  and Bacon Sandwich

2 slices of white bread

2 tablespoons of peanut butter (I reduce to 1 tablespoon)

1 sliced banana

4 slices of bacon (reduce to 2 slices)


Bacon fry in a pan until brown. Remove the bacon from the pan, keep the fat for later. Spread the bread with butter (as above), arrange a banana, cover the fried bacon, cover with a second slice. Fry the whole on both sides with fat from bacon. Tasty and crispy!

Fool's Gold Loaf

(full version)

1 white toasted bread slices

4 tablespoons butter

1 blueberry jam jar

1 jar of peanut butter

1 pound of bacon

          Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C (350 degrees F). Melt butter and spread each slice on both sides. Place all on the baking sheets and bake in golden color. Cool.

Fry bacon. Each slice (on one side) to spread peanut butter, jam and put bacon on it. Cover with another slice. Repeat until the slices and other ingredients are exhausted. Try to flatten the sandwich as much as possible so that it can be eaten ...


(very short version)

2 slices of toast bread, bake in toaster

2 tablespoons peanut butter

2 tablespoons of blueberry jam (grape or strawberry)

4 slices bacon

          Bacon fry as above; slices to spread peanut butter, jam, put the bacon, close the whole, cut into triangles.



- version from photo: it's a full version without baking bread. White bread is rolled into thin slices. The whole is soft, only crunchy bacon at fast serving (a super calorie bomb - about 8000 calories) ...

- the new version of Nick Andurlakis: a long roll cut lengthwise, slightly baked with melted butter, and to it: 450 grams of peanut butter, 450 grams of blueberry jam or dark grapes, 450 grams of fried bacon. After preparing the whole, cut them into pieces with a sharp knife. Enjoy your meal.
